Good design for screen genre

Based on my group presentation, I think that the content of the presentation is not solid. More information regarding the topic should be added in order for the audience to understand better about it. The presentation only explains briefly about the readings in Kress & van Leeuwen's reading. The theory of a good online design depends on the audience, layout, colour and many more (About.com, 2009).

According to Reep (2006), he states that  it is important to put some eye catching media objects and emoticons on the online design slides so that it can attact the readers' attention and give readers the impression that the slides are interesting and they will eventually read it. For example, in our presentation slides, we can see the atrractive colours used. It is advisable to put attractive and right colours in the slides that can blend with the background so that it will not difficult to read.

This image shows that it is important to include both pictures and words in slides to make it more interesting so that readers will get attracted to read it.

According to Schriver (1997),he states that if images were to use on a document, it should avoid from touching the local sensitive subject like our religion's logos or symbols so readers would not mistake them as an insult. Therefore, it is crucial follow the principals in designing a good document.

New forms of Media publishing

(Source: google.com, 2009)

Nowadays, there are many new forms of media published online. For example like Facebook. Facebook is the largest networking site which is intended to connect family, friends and for business purpose. Once we add a friend to our Facebook friend list, we will automatically get updates about them if they approve us as their friends as well. Facebook tells us when our friends are updating their profiles, adding new posts to their blogs or have some other news on their website. Besides that, people are able to open business through Facebook pages and also have fan sites. Facebook has also opened up many possibilities in the way people communicate with each other on a day to day basis; because what we normally do in Facebook we cannot entirely accomplish it in real life (Shannon, 2009). On the other hand, we can share personal message with our friends by attaching the message to their wall for all to view or tag the particular person who you want to tell the message to. When the person is tagged, he will receive a notification through e-mail. Therefore, Facebook has become a new form of media publishing that can enchance interactive communication among the users.

Blogging communities

Blogging communities are made up of bloggers that share the same interest such as Nuffnang.com. Blogging communities are divided into three categories. The first community is made up of single blogging platform with a single blog and more than an author. The second community is a definite site which has a network with all the bloggers' blogs and tools whereas the third community is made up of bloggers as well as readers together with social networking and messaging tools.

White (2006) mentioned that people can start blogging as a medium for community development in terms of technology, social architecture, the role of subject matter and issues like life cycle and scalability. Therefore, in order to build blogging communities, a blogger must have connections with other bloggers' site, leave comments, reply comments on their own blogs, make their blogs entertaining, update it frequently and market blogs to increase readership as stated by Nikkis (2009).

Simple concepts can often be the best ones in online communities. One of the online communities I know is Rate My Space. This concept was originally an easy one. Users can upload an image and brief description about their blogging issues. People can vote or comment on those images. Therefore, we can see the speed at which images have views, votes and comments by just looking at the site.

Blogging Issues

Blogs as current phenomenon & benefits of blogging to the community

A weblog is a personal online journal that is often updated and it can be viewed by the public. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author and it is defined by their format which the series of entries are posted to a single page in reverse sequential order. According to Branum (2001), the term weblog describes a personal website which is generally chronologically organized. He mentioned that weblog represents an online intersection of people and time. On the other hand, the author of a blog is often referred as a blogger. People blog for many reasons. They may share their thoughts, ideas, promote their business, discuss, and seek for job opportunities or just for leisure.

Blogging brings a lot of benefits as it can grab the attention of many viewers because most bloggers tend to make their articles short and simple and yet interesting so that readers can read it with flow. According Kristi (2009), when there is a community, the readers will view the particular blog again, leave comments and this will inspire the blogger to blog more, share ideas with others as well as can recommend the blogger to the community. This will help to increase the population of your blog and make the number viewers grow.

Classification of blogs

According to Technorati.com (2009), there are many blogs classifications categorized from political, sports, technology and entertainment blogs. In Malaysia, there are a few categories can be found among bloggers which would be diary blogs, advertisement blogs, politics-based blogs, fashion blogs and many more. Diary, advertisement and fashion blogs are favourable among girls as majority of them do online boutique through their blogs nowadays. They tend to advertise their products on blogs whereas politics-based blogs usually written by politicians or people who are active in politics issues. According to Bruns & Jacobs (2005), the topic of a blog may vary from what the blogger decides to mention in the blog. Since the birth of the blogging phenomenon, there has been no other media form stronger than the pull of blogging.
